Sustainable Solutions Continue in 2009

DGI-Menard had a successful 2008 - thanks to our valued clients.

In 2009, we will continue to offer sustainable, design-build solutions that conserve natural resources while improving soft ground and reducing settlement. "In the past four to five years," says Seth Pearlman, CEO and president of DGI-Menard, "we've noticed an increase in demand for sustainable ground improvement techniques and solutions that improve construction quality while controlling costs."

"Within the industry, people continue to over-design because they don't have the research or documentation necessary to turn design efficiencies into cost-effective, sustainable practice, states Pearlman. "We must develop and maintain a philosophy of continuous improvement."

DGI-Menard provides sustainable solutions with Controlled Modulus Columns (CMCs) - a ground improvement solution with a smaller carbon footprint than traditional methods. CMCs are typically used for storage tanks and containment structures, buildings and warehouses, port and airport platforms, and roads and railways.

CMCs Installed at Squantum Gardens

DGI-Menard has completed several ground improvement projects for clients with multi-story residential housing units, including the Moorings at Squantum Gardens in Quincy, MA. When the geotechnical study revealed that the soils underlying the site could not adequately support the proposed fill and structures, DGI-Menard installed more than 1,200 CMCs to stiffen the underlying weak soils, provide the appropriate settlement reduction and support the buildings and the substantial amount of fill that was placed on the site.
