The aim of the project was the expansion of the Reims sewage treatment plant on a surface of about 8.5 hectares. The soil characteristics did not allow construction on superficial foundations without any pre-treatment. It was necessary to treat the soft chalk layers in order to minimize the predicted settlements and to avoid the use of a pilled slab keyed in the deep hard chalk.
An economical solution was suggested by DGI-Menard based on controlled modulus columns. The 30,000 m of columns were installed in 2 and a half months.
